Do you have questions or problems related to your employment relationship? SAK’s employment counselling is free of charge and open to everyone, and you do not need to be a member of a trade union to seek advice. The employment counselling service is aimed specifically at young people and employees with a foreign background. Feel free to contact us!
Our helpline at 0800 414 004 is open on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 12:00, and on Thursdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 pm to 17:00. Calls are free of charge and will only be charged according to the caller’s telephone operator’s rates.
You can also send an email to workinfinland@sak.fi at any time.
SAK’s employment counselling service provides advice in Finnish, Swedish and English.
Our experts can help when:
- you don’t understand your employment contract or want an outsider to review it before signing.
- you suspect that you haven’t been paid correctly, including shift allowances or holiday pay.
- you want information about minimum wages and employment terms in your sector.
- you want to check something related to your leave or working hours.
- you experience bullying or discrimination at your workplace and need advice for your situation.
- you need advice on finding the right trade union for you. You can also search for a suitable trade union on Liitot.fi.
Here’s what we can’t help you with:
- We do not mediate jobs or give advice for job seeking. You can get help with finding employment, for example, from the Job Market Finland service, and with starting a business from the Enterprise-Finland service.
- We do not prepare documents, such as payroll calculations, nor do we contact your employer on your behalf. If you’re a trade union member, you can ask your trade union for help.
- If your problem is so difficult that it can’t be solved by discussing it in the workplace, contact your trade union. Your other option is to hire a lawyer.
- If you suspect that you are a victim of a crime or abuse at your workplace, you can get advice from the Victim Support Finland (RIKU) helpline on weekdays from 13:00 to 16:00: 040 632 9293 (including SMS or WhatsApp). Read more on the RIKU online service.
Other advisory services
We’ve put together a list of other advisory services on the page Guide for employees who have moved to Finland > When in trouble, ask for help. There, you’ll find information about services that can help you if you are discriminated against for things like your nationality or gender.
